Priorities remain unchanged; Year ahead an opportunity to improve
Greetings, Fort Hood! For those of you who don’t know me, I am Maj. Gen. Will Grimsley and, for the past six months, I have had the privilege of being the deputy commanding general for III Corps and Fort Hood. As of Monday, with the deployment of Lt. Gen. Cone to Iraq, I now have the honor of serving as the acting senior commander of Fort Hood. With this honor comes a great deal of responsibility, which I take seriously. In my new role, I assume all of the duties and responsibilities that Lt. Gen. Cone carried out on a day-to-day basis. I will keep all of the current policies in place and my efforts will remain focused on the III Corps commanding general’s priorities.

An introduction: Checkups important, even if it’s checking the ‘checkers’
Before diving into my first column in the Sentinel, allow me to introduce myself. I’ve served in the Army for 26 years, most of it with aviation units around the world. I’ve been married to my lovely wife, Priscilla, for nearly 25 of those years. Together we’ve raised three children, and still have our youngest son at home (an 11-year-old middle school student).

Neighborhood Watch: You are your own best security, recruiting underway
Our Department of the Army civilian and military police force is among the best in the nation. They do a lot to protect and secure our post, and within it, our housing areas. In my previous assignment, when I lived in Colorado Springs, I saw a police car drive through my neighborhood about five times over a two-year period. What I learned was I was my own best defense!
