Town hall great success; most common concerns readdressed
I want to thank everyone who participated in the Fort Hood Town Hall Jan. 26. From the support staff that brought it all together to those who asked questions and shared their ideas, this town hall was a great success because of the fantastic team we have at the Great Place. Your input and participation ensures that the Fort Hood team remains strong and ready. As I stated last week, it’s important for the command group to stay in touch with you, but equally important for you to stay in touch with the command group. It is essential for me to hear from you in order to get a better understanding of how our team here is doing. The mixed-media forum we used ensured the largest number of participants and provided digital records of the questions and responses for those that were unable to participate. All in all, I’d say that we have a winning formula to include the most people possible at the largest military base in the U.S.

Courtesy patrol initiative helps educate, inform
About five months ago, we began an initiative to improve the standards and discipline throughout III Corps and Fort Hood. The initiative was the creation of the courtesy patrol. The purpose of the courtesy patrol is to inform and educate the III Corps and Fort Hood population on policies, procedures and regulations. I’ve received a lot of feedback about this program, both in support and against the initiative.

Celebrating influential African-American women in history
The celebration of Black History, also called African-American History, was started by Carter Woodson, an African-American scholar, educationist and historian in 1926. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Because the study of black history was a broad undertaking, themes were developed to focus the public’s attention on important developments that merited emphasis. The 2012 theme is “Black Women in American Culture and History.” From the American Revolution to the present, African-American women have played critical roles in the making of our nation. Their labor, leadership, patriotism, intellect, and artistic expression have enriched the African-American community and the nation at large. Their struggles have been at the heart of the human experience.
