Sunset Sounds

Samuel Adams Brewhouse will host Sunset Soundz from 6:30-9 p.m. Aug. 16. Doors open at 3 p.m. A DJ will start at 6:30 p.m. and live music will begin at 7:30 p.m.

 A Strongman Competition is set for 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Harvey Functional Fitness Center.

Individual men and women categories include:

• Farmer walk

• Distance for time

• Atlas Stone

• 4 stones, increasing in weight

for time

Weigh-in begins at 7 a.m.

Men’s categories include:

• Lightweight 150 lbs. and below

• Middleweight 151-180 lbs.

• Heavyweight 181 and up

Women’s categories include:

• Lightweight 130 lbs. and below

• Middleweight 131-160 lbs.

• Heavyweight 161 lbs. and up

Awards presented to the overall winner in each weight class. Cost is free and open to all 18 and over

Samuel Adams Brewhouse is hosting a Fight Night Watch Party for UFC 241 at 7 p.m. Aug. 17. The event is free and open to all 18 and over.

Dedication ceremony

Fort Hood’s Air Assault School will hold a Memorial/Dedication ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20 at the school, located at Murphy Road and T.J. Mills Boulevard, renaming the school after Command Sgt. Maj. Basil L. Plumley, famous for his role in the Ia Drang Valley battle, featured in the movie “We Were Soldiers.” The public is invited.

Aug. 22

Meet the Teacher Night

Aug. 22 is Meet the Teacher Night for Killeen Independent School District. Elementary schools will host Meet the Teacher Night from 4-6 p.m., and middle schools host Meet the Teacher Night from 5-7 p.m.

Women’s Equality Day

3rd Cavalry Regiment and III Corps and the Fort Hood Community is hosting a Women’s Equality Day observance from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Fort Hood Phantom Warrior Center. The guest speaker will be retired Command Sgt. Major Jackeline Soriano Fountain.

Aug. 24

Book signing

The Clear Creek Exchange will host a meet and greet event with actor, writer and director Mat Best from 1-3 p.m., Aug. 24. Best will visit Fort Hood Mat to promote his new book “Thank You For My Service.” At the exchange, he will be available to sign copies of his book. Best joined the Army at the age of 17 and deployed five times to Iraq and Afghanistan with the 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. After leaving military service, he deployed to a variety of overseas locations as a contractor during his five years with the Central Intelligence Agency. Best graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts, and began creating satirical videos and building brands like Article 15 Clothing, Leadslingers Spirits, the Drinkin’ Bros Podcast, and Black Rifle Coffee Company. He is currently is the vice president for BRCC.

Ruck Team Challenge

The Amazing Ruck Team Challenge is set for 7 a.m. Aug. 24 at BLORA paintball range. The event is open to 4-member teams ages 12 and up. Participants are encouraged to show up early. The cost is $25 for Department of Defense card holders and $30 for non-DoD card holders through Aug. 21 On-site registration is also set for 6 a.m. Aug. 24. The cost on race day will be $30 for DoD card holders and $35 for non DoD card holders. Registration includes a T-shirt for the first 200 participants.

5K Fun Run/Walk

The Hood Mobilization Brigade will host a 5K Fun Run/Walk at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 5, at North Fort Hood. The run is open to all active duty personnel and dependents. Race day registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bldg. 56480. For more information, call 614-774-4959.

Le Tour de Hood

Sign up for classes for Le Tour de Hood Spin Cycle Challenge at Abrams Physical Fitness Center. The event will run until Dec. 20. Participants will attend spin classes and complete the seven mountain stages of the Tour de France. Each phase is around 80 miles. Participants will receive a prize each time they complete 100 miles. Complete all seven phases in the time frame and receive a T-shirt.

Cost is $3 for walk-ins and $45 for a 16-visit pass. Times are 8-9 a.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9-10 a.m. the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Threat awareness training

Training on Threat Awareness Reporting, Special Events, Antiterrorism Level 1, OPSEC, Ready Army Emergency Preparedness and Threat Information Sharing and Suspicious Activity Reporting is scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every Tuesday in August. Times will vary for each of the six subjects. The training will be conducted at Howze Auditorium.
