Smash Bros Tournament

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is hosting a gaming tournament featuring Super Smash Bros from 1-5 p.m. Jan. 11 at BOSS headquarters. Whether you are a pro or just have some game join us as we award the top three gamers with a trophy for all the bragging rights.

The cost is free and open to all single Soldiers.

MLK Day Houston Trip

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is hosting a MLK Day Houston Trip From Jan. 17-19. Cost is $125 per person. The cash only, non-refundable trip includes lodging, transportation and activities.

Chili Bowl Classic

The Courses of Clear Creek is hosting the Chili Bowl Classic Golf Scramble starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 18.

MLK Observance

A Martin Luther King Jr. Observance is set for 11:30 a.m.-12:30 a.m. Jan. 23 at Phantom Warrior Center, Bldg. 194.

The guest speaker will be Gary Cobb, former assistant district attorney for the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.

The III Corps and Fort Hood community event is hosted by the 166th Aviation Brigade, First Army.

Unlimited golf

The Courses of Clear Creek are offering unlimited golf until Feb. 29. Two options are available:

• Unlimited golf 1: Cost is $35. Participants can play all day. Price includes green fee, cart fee and daily lunch special.

• Unlimited golf 2: Cost is $25. Participants can play from noon to dusk. Price includes green fee and cart fee.

The event is open to all, runs Monday through Friday and is not valid on weekends, holidays and training holidays.

Fort Hood Tax Center

The Fort Hood Tax Center is the yearly program run through the Legal Assistance office, providing tax preparation services to Soldiers, family members and retirees.

 Unit readiness revolves around Soldier readiness. Preparing tax returns for Soldiers and their dependents will improve unit readiness and keep Soldiers’ focused on their mission

FHTC will be open from Jan. 21- April 16. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.

FHTC is closed on Saturday, Sunday, all federal holidays and III Corps training holidays.

In-house training is also set for Jan. 13. Individuals should contact the FHTC to schedule an appointment rather than trying to walk in. The FHTC main information phone number is 254-288-7995.

Winter Read

Casey Memorial Hospital presents Winter Read through Jan. 18.

Earn prizes for reading over the holidays.

Le Tour de Hood

Sign up for classes for Le Tour de Hood Spin Cycle Challenge at Abrams Physical Fitness Center. The event will run until Saturday. Participants will attend spin classes and complete the seven mountain stages of the Tour de France.

Each phase is around 80 miles. Participants will receive a prize each time they complete 100 miles. Complete all seven phases in the time frame and receive a T-shirt. Cost is $3 for walk-ins and $45 for a 16-visit pass.

Times are 8-9 a.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, noon-1 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9-10 a.m., the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

Eight Ball Pool Tournament

On the first Thursday of each month, BOSS hosts an Eight Ball Pool Tournament for single Soldiers at Samuel Adams Brewhouse. Cash prizes are given for first place. The cost is $5 and sign up begins at 6 p.m.

Teen Taxi

Need a ride?

Teen Taxi is an after school pick-up service that transports youth to designated Fort Hood Youth Centers Monday-Friday. This service is free and open to middle school children and high school teens who are eligible to attend Fort Hood Youth Centers.

Permission slips are required for this service. Stop by your respective youth center to pick them up.

Procedures for service include:

• Call designated youth center for taxi pick-up.

• CYS verifies registration and parent completes permission slip.

• Appropriate time and location of pick-up will be given to youth.

• Youth will be picked up at given location and delivered to designated youth center.
