SALADO — Are you looking for a free, local and family-friendly farmers market to attend?
The Barrow Brewing Co. and the Salado community are scheduled to host a farmers market every Saturday through June 27. The farmers market is located between the Salado Creek and the Barrow Brewing Co. Also, starting at 7:30 p.m., every Saturday live music is scheduled to play in front of the Barrow Brewing Co.
As my husband and I were walking up to the farmers market, the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. My husband and I are huge coffee fanatics — neither of us attempt to tackle the mornings without it. The coffee truck was our first stop (of course). I never wake up before 9 a.m. on a Saturday, but I didn’t want to miss the farmers market in Salado. Along with the coffee truck, there was a taco and pizza truck (we also love tacos and pizza). Salado is one of my favorite places to visit and it’s only a 25 minute drive away from Fort Hood.
As my husband and I sipped on our iced-coffee, we walked around the farmers market and learned about each vendor and their product and/or service. We bought handmade soap and jalapeno jelly. I absolutely love jalapeno jelly. The first time I ever tried jalapeno jelly, I was at a farmers market in Augusta, Georgia, three years ago. Now, every time I visit a farmers market, I always look for jalapeno jelly. It’s nostalgic and reminds me of Georgia (where I met my husband).
My husband and I go on a “date” at least once a week. Saturday’s farmers market was our opportunity to spend a few hours of quality time together. The weekly market is a great place to go out on a date, with friends or with family. Fur babies (dogs) on a leash are also welcome to attend the farmers market. My only complaint was the Texas heat. Sunglasses were my best friend Saturday. I would recommend visitors wear sunblock and have a bottle of water on hand when visiting the outdoor market.
The next Barrow Brewing Co. Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., The next one is scheduled for June 6 and is located at 108 Royal St. in Salado. For more information on the Barrow Brewing Co. Farmers Market and/or how to become a vendor, follow them at www.facebook.com/BarrowBrewingCompany.
