The Fort Hood Army Family Team Building office celebrated AFTB’s 27th birthday at the Shoemaker Center Dec. 16.
“We are letting people know how they can take classes online,” Sallie Davis, AFTB’s Army Family Action Plan coordinator, said.
AFTB offers classes for Soldiers and spouses. Davis said the classes are especially useful for new spouses who do not yet understand Army lingo.
“We teach them how to read an LES, explain benefits entitlements, ball etiquette and communication,” Davis explained about classes for new spouses. “We also offer leadership classes.”
Davis said it is often difficult for Soldiers and spouses to come into the building for classes, because they are too busy, do not have child care or other things. Instead, they now offer the classes virtually and self-paced.
“It’s good to know that they have these resources,” former Soldier Erin Ponte, wife of Sgt. Reynaldo Ponte, 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cav. Div., said. “I have a lot of friends who are spouses that were never in. I try to explain things, but they don’t know what I mean. It’s good that this is available for people.”
