Hoping to provide Fort Hood families with a little holiday magic, Fort Hood Family Housing, a Lendlease privatized military housing community, organized a Home for the Holidays drive-thru event Friday night at Hood Stadium.

“Our Home for the Holidays drive-thru event will provide residents the opportunity to experience the magic of the holidays, while remaining safely in their vehicles,” Chris Albus, FHFH project manager, said.

The event began with Texas snow (bubbles) falling onto the vehicles, as children excitedly reached out their windows to feel it. The drive-thru included holiday music, Cocoa Land, Polar Express, a winter wonderland snow village, Candy Cane Lane, Whoville, goodies for the children and concluded with an appearance by the big man in red, Santa Claus.

“This idea stemmed from our great Fort Hood Family Housing team members and their commitment to find innovative ways during COVID to help our residents enjoy a bit of the magic that comes with the holiday season,” Albus explained. “Since we are unable to host our usual in-person Home for the Holidays event, we came together to develop this drive-thru style event where residents, our team and volunteers will be able to safely social distance, while still spreading holiday cheer.”

Around 500 families attended the holiday event, eager to have something fun to do this holiday season, while also keeping their families safe.

“It was nice for the kids,” Cynthia Johnson, spouse of Sgt. Andrew Johnson, 1st Cavalry Division, said. “They laughed so much!”

FHFH has a Here Comes Santa Claus event coming up, with Santa riding through the neighborhoods through Dec. 16. Santa rode through Comanche I, II, III and Kouma Village earlier this week.
