Veterans Welcome Home 2012

Central Texas Veterans Health Care System will host the Veterans Welcome Home Sept. 22 at Carl Levin Park in Harker Heights.

This event is free and open to all active-duty Soldiers, veterans and their Family members.

SAN ANTONIO

Wounded Warrior Project 8K Run

The Wounded Warrior Project 8K Run will be held Sept. 16 in San Antonio to raise awareness and funds to support Wounded Warriors through WWP. The run will start and finish at McAllister Park, 13102 Jones-Maltsberger Rd.

The registration fees are as follows:

Until Aug. 16 – $25

Aug. 17-Sept. 16 – $35

Military (no date restrictions) – $15

1K Fun Run (12 and under) – $15

Registration fee includes race day number, timing and festivities. The first 1,000 participants registered are guaranteed to go home with an Under Armour running jersey.

Packets may be picked up at Run On! San Antonio from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 11-13.

MARBLE FALLS

LakeFest Boat Races

Lake Marble Falls will transform into a liquid quarter-mile “racetrack” for LakeFest 2012 Friday-Sunday. Gates open at 7 a.m. Saturday, and approximately 100 boats take to the water from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Test & Tune. Friday evening, drag boat fans will swarm Johnson Park for a chance to get up-close and personal with the drivers and boats.

COLLEGE STATION

Starlight Music Series

The Starlight Music series has kicked off in

College Station’s Wolf Pen Creek

Ampitheater and will continue to bring live

music entertainment throughout the summer.

Residents and visitors can load up their picnic baskets, coolers, blankets and lawn

chairs for a night under the stars at the

ampitheater.

Admission is free to all events, and gates open at 6 p.m.

Guests may bring their own refreshments, but glass containers are not allowed. Coolers must be 48 quarts or

smaller.

AUSTIN

Annual Hot Sauce Festival

The 22nd annual Austin Hot Sauce Festival will take place Aug. 26 at Fiesta Gardens in Austin.

Three healthy, non-perishable food donations or a cash donation for CAFB are requested. Purchase raffle tickets at the festival to be included in the drawing for this year’s Sizzling Summer Raffle prize packages (up to five packages available valued at more than $500 each).

There’s no limit. Every $1 raffle ticket purchased allows the food bank to provide $5 worth of nutritious food to Central Texas families.

The hot sauce contest has three levels of competition: individuals (homemade), restaurants and commercial bottlers.

Food vendors will provide a wide array of foods.

There will also be live entertainment throughout the day.

Circus comes to town

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will bring circus entertainment to the Frank Erwin Center Aug. 22-26 with their

new show: Fully Charged.

DCI Austin

DCI Austin returns to the Drum Corps International Tour schedule this summer as a mid-season showcase of top world class corps.

The Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Round Rock will play host to this competition

today to kick off a weeklong series of events throughout Texas.

DCI Austin is one in a series of more than 100 national events that make up the annual tour. Performances feature visual formations and choreography set to classical, jazz, pop and rock music.

Old Town Festival 2012

Bartlett’s Old Town Festival will be held Sept. 14-15 in historic downtown Bartlett.

There will be activities for all ages.

Sept. 14 will host a barbecue competition as well as live entertainment.

Sept. 15 will start out with the 5K Run for the Heroes. Following that, there will be a parade featuring bands, horses, floats, bicycles, motorcycles, farm equipment, 4x4s, antique cars, clowns and more.

After the parade, Bartlett has shopping in its historic downtown along with music, games, contests, raffles, food, car shows and many

vendors with all types of arts, crafts and collectibles.

The Bartlett Museum will be open along with the Bartlett Activities Center during the festival.

Isla Del Sol Fest

The first annual Isla Del Sol Fest will take place Sept. 1-3 at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark and Clayton’s Beach Resort.
