Attention military units! As part of the Commander’s Cup Trophy competition, Fort Hood Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation is conducting a Dodgeball competition Aug. 8-11 a the Abrams Physical Fitness Center. Gate closures

The Fort Hood Garrison commander has directed that selected access gates will be closed in order to limit traffic flow and increase the safety of all residents. By mid-morning Friday, the Roberts Road gate, adjacent to Watercrest Road, which services Liberty and Kouma villages; and the Business 190 gate at Venable Drive, which services Venable Village; will be closed to traffic until further notice.

AT Awareness Month

The month of August is Antiterrorism Awareness Month and Fort Hood’s Force Protection Office is offering a variety of courses from 9 a.m. to noon each Wednesday throughout the month in-person at Howze Auditorium and via Microsoft Teams.

The first classes are set for Wednesday and include: Antiterrorism Level 1, Operational Security, Threat Awareness Reporting Program, Ready Army, Cyber Security, and Securing Installation Access Control Process.

Author meet, greet event

The community is invited to meet children’s book author Tricia Stone-Shumaker for a meet-and-greet session, story time and crafts for kids from 10 a.m. - noon Saturday at the Casey Memorial Library. Stone-Shumaker is an Army mom and author of “Poppy’s Adventures: The Story of Poppy the Traveling Cross Beak Chicken.” She’ll have her pet chickens on hand for the event. Karaoke Night

Fort Hood Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host a Karaoke Night from 7-10 p.m., Aug. 5 at the Sam Adams Brewhouse, located in Building 5782 on 24th Street.

BOSS Summer Cookout

Fort Hood’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program is offering a free BOSS Summer Cookout 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Aug. 12, at BOSS Headquarters.  

BOSS events are open to any single or unaccompanied service member.

The single or unaccompanied Service Member category includes single service members, unaccompanied Soldiers, and single parents.
