Fort Hood boxers compete for spots on All-Army, WCAP, Olympic teamsTheir routes may vary but the destinations are similar: four Fort Hood boxers are seeking success in the ring through the All-Army boxing tournament and the World Class Athlete Program; and two others are seeking Olympic glory through national Golden Gloves tournaments. As a high school student in New Orleans, Quadi Hudgins, now a sergeant for the Combat Support Battalion platoon, Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, said, his uncle told him, “If I was going to fight somebody I might as well do it in the ring.”

Half-Marathon run honors fallen warriorsCAMP TAJI, Iraq – One after another they ran through the wet and slippery streets, their bodies caked in drying mud, foraging ahead to the finish line at their own pace. It might have been easier to stay clean and dry, but this run was for fallen comrades who gave their lives defending the United States; a little mud would not stop the runners.
Pro Golf Tip
Use your favorite club in pressure situations There will be times when you have to play a pressure tee shot to find the fairway. Boost you confidence by using your favorite club to play the shot. Rather than a driver, a fairway metal may be a better choice of club. It’s far better to be 150 yards or so straight down the middle of the fairway than 130 yards in the trees.

Dolphins place third in Junior OlympicsOutnumbered by the swimmers pooled by other clubs, the Fort Hood Dolphins managed a third-place finish overall during the Junior Olympics swim meet held last weekend at Belton High School. “Dolphins swimmers placed high within their age groups and the team was able to gain many points from the top eight places from some of their seasoned competitors,” said Dolphins head coach Lisa Parameter.

‘Bubble Teams,’ ‘Bracketology’ explained as Selection Sunday loomsSunday afternoon I sat down to watch a little college hoops. My 17th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers travelled to Champagne, Ill., to take on the Illinois University in their Big Ten finale. Illinois beat my Badgers earlier this season, the only team to do so on Wisconsin’s home court. Illinois is what ESPN basketball analysts refer to as a “bubble team,” meaning that they really need some quality wins at the tail end of the season to find themselves in the NCAA tournament field.
