Fort Hood and III Corps have reserved 37 designated parking spaces for use by Families of the fallen at on-post public facilities.

Families of the fallen members are widows, widowers, parents and siblings of service members who lost their lives while serving on active duty.

The intent of the designated parking is to honor and recognize the sacrifice of Family members who have lost a loved one in military service. The reserved parking also serves as a means to promote awareness and educate the military community on Families of the fallen.

Survivor Outreach Services is the official Army program that provides long-term support to surviving Families of fallen Soldiers. SOS is staffed with support coordinators and a financial counselor to provide support through the grief process, coordinate support groups, provide information and referrals services and coordinate other services upon request.

Survivors not only stay connected to the Army through the SOS program, they may also influence programs and benefits by participating in Army Family Action Plan events.

In a letter to Gold Star Families in 2011, Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Raymond Odierno wrote, “... our Gold Star Families will always be honored and remembered by a grateful nation.”

The reserved parking spaces can be found at the following locations: Survivors Outreach Services; Clear Creek Commissary; Clear Creek Post Exchange; Warrior Way Commissary; Warrior Way Post Exchange; Casualty Assistance Center; Carl R. Darnall Medical Center; Russell L. Collier Health Clinic; Bennett Clinic; Thomas Moore Clinic; Army Community Service main office; ACS – Employment Readiness Branch; ACS – Oveta Culp Hobby; ACS – Lane Volunteer Center; ACS – Soldier Family Assistances Center; ACS – Resiliency Campus (Suites 400 and 500); ACS – Family Advocacy Program; ACS – Victim Advocacy; ACS – New Parent Support Program; Copeland Soldier Service Center and the Legal Office.
