‘Beauty and the Beast’

This “tale as old as time” can bring the whole family together at 7 p.m. today and Friday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Vive Les Arts Theatre.

‘American Idol’ auditions

FOX 44, Central Texas is hosting “American Idol” auditions Wednesday at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. This is one of three audition sites in Texas.

No applications will be received before 11 a.m. Only the first 100 people may audition on a first-come, first-serve basis, with up to 30 individuals proceeding to the state finals in Waco at Texas State Technical College.

Performers are responsible for bringing any accompanying music on CDs. Performances begin at 1 p.m.

Family Fun Night

The exhibit also showcases artifacts that have been held in storage and are on exhibit for the first time.

Can Ranger Grainger save Goody Goody and the Salado citizenry from the peril that ensues? Questions will be answered with a healthy dose of slapstick, song and satire.

Twilight Paddle

Discover how using each of your five senses will help you experience the mysteries which surround you at twilight Friday at Inks Lake State Park.

A specialist will be your “senses-guide” through this evening adventure on the flat waters of Inks Lake. Canoes, kayaks, life jackets and paddles will be provided, or you can bring your own for a reduced fee.

Twilight Paddle is open to ages 18 and older and canoeing or kayaking experience is required. Bring a strong flashlight and wear shoes that can get wet. Participants should meet at the group pavilion. The $15 fee includes boat rental; call for the fee if you bring your boat. Reservations are required and the deadline is 7 p.m. today.

Music Under the Star

Music Under the Star, the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum’s free concert series, will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Set out your camp chairs and blankets under the Star and listen to live music from Omar and the Howlers. Music Under the Star will be held rain or shine.

On select eventings there will be free Rudy’s Bar-B-Q, Mighty Fine Burgers and Blue Bell ice cream while supplies last. A cash bar will be available on the Plaza featuring Lone Star beer. No coolers or outside refreshments are permitted.

Between music sets, explore the three floors of Main Exhibits and the special exhibition, Texas Treasure: Inside Our Governor’s Mansion, for free. Event parking is available in the museum’s underground garage on the corner of 18th and Congress Streets for free.

NEW BRAUNFELS

Rowdy Float Trip

Grab some friends, reserve your campsite, and get ready to rock out on the river at the 5th annual Rowdy Float Trip Aug. 5-7 at the Mountain Breeze Campground on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels.

During the day, relax in the Guadalupe while listening to some Texas music on the acoustic stage. Evenings and nights are filled with performances by Texas country bands on the main stage. After the concerts, party with friends until the early morning or enjoy campfire acoustic performances.

Tickets are $75 per person and include an event ticket for Aug. 6 and 7 as well as camping fees for those days, but doesn’t include tube rental. Tickets for the pre-party on Aug. 5 are an additional $15 per person and include camping for that night.
