We’re doing it again. On Friday, the Fort Hood Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program is going on another overnight camping trip to Colorado Bend State Park. Since most Soldiers who went on the last camping trip there had such a good time, we decided to go back. With the weather starting to cool down, it’s the last chance to go camping before it gets too cold. We will have the options to swim, kayak, hike, mountain bike and more. For only $25 per Soldier, we are including food, transportation, park fees, tents and kayak rentals. Feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it, but all you really need is to be ready to have a good time.

From Oct. 29-31, the BOSS program would like to invite all Soldiers and their families to come out and take part in our haunted tunnels competition.

Each unit participating will be decorating their own tent. For $3 dollars per person, or $10 per family, community members will have a chance to judge the tents, deciding which one is the scariest. The winning unit will receive $1,000, second place will walk away with $700 dollars and the unit that comes in third will win $300 dollars. So come out and have some fun while supporting your unit.

If you’re looking to help out in the community then one of these upcoming events might interest you. On Nov. 4, BOSS members have been invited to the Lions Club for a senior citizens dance. So if you want to show off your class As and get in a little dancing, then this might be something that you want to do.

Also coming up, Nov. 12-13, we will be helping out with the Special Olympics event at the Phantom Warrior Lanes starting at 8 a.m. both days. We need lots of volunteers for both days to make this event a success, so please come lend a helping hand.

If you would like to sign up for any event that you just read about, come by the BOSS office, located in the Phantom Warrior Center, or call us at 287-6116. And if you want more information about any events the Fort Hood BOSS program is doing you can check out our website at
