Over the weekend, Fort Hood’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers took a trip to the small town of Pottsboro, a town close to the border between Texas and Oklahoma, which skirts the banks of beautiful Lake Texoma.

Our first morning started out pretty cold and foggy as we made our way down the docks, but we were ready for some fishing. As the sun peaked over the edge of the lake, we could hear the fish calling. All 32 Soldiers who came out fished on the lake and we couldn’t get the bait on the hooks fast enough! The Take a Soldier Fishing organization made this trip possible. It’s a great organization that shows our Soldiers there are people who really care about their well-being. This trip was totally free for us and we can’t thank those who made this happen for us enough.

We also sent 54 Soldiers to a free Thanksgiving meal at Morgan Mills Elementary School last week. They fed us a feast fit for a king! Everyone who went said the children felt proud when we were there and our members were happy to see the smiles light up on their faces.

Last but not least, we sent 30 Soldiers to College Station for the Texas A&M/Nebraska football game. The stadium was packed with more than 90,000 people, so it was a blast. Everyone had VIP tickets to the game and had field access. There was even a special military tribute that included a flyover from the Air Force.

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, but you can get a head start on Turkey Day by joining BOSS this afternoon for a feast! Get a seat to eat at 3 p.m. at the U.S. Club located on 2nd Street and Business 190 in Killeen. There, a free meal is being offered to military personnel and dependents of single and unaccompanied Soldiers. We’ll have a huge mix of the traditional Thanksgiving items that include baked turkey, deep fried turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, delicious stuffing, some very tasty yams, slow cooked spiral cut ham, a savory cranberry sauce and much more! This is one meal you don’t want to miss.

Fort Hood BOSS is rolling out new events every week and you, too, can stay in the know! We send out a distribution e-mail to more than 3,000 senior leaders, Soldiers and BOSS representatives. If you would like your name to be on this list, contact our office.
