Honor your spouse on Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Col. Bill Hill
Last week, I told you about an opportunity to win a vacation for your spouse by creating a video explaining why your spouse deserves to win the “Ultimate Vacation.” I hope you are well on your way to finishing this project because the deadline is May 6. The winners will enjoy a vacation worth about $4,000.

We’ll announce the winner May 8 during our Military Spouse Appreciation Day social. It will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center, and will include a guest speaker, door prizes and light refreshments. It’s free, and it’s our way of treating our very special military spouses to an enjoyable morning.

I am so grateful for the support I’ve always enjoyed and received from my spouse. Kathleen is a teacher, mother and my wife. Like so many of our spouses, she balances all of the demands on her time and makes our house a home.

There is nothing more precious than our Families, and this upcoming week is a fitting time to pause and thank our spouses. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is May 8 and Mother’s Day is Sunday May 10 – two great opportunities to express how you feel and show appreciation for your spouse’s dedication, sacrifice and love.

Here’s something new in our effort to make the Great Place “Greater,” and at the same time, you can show your spouse appreciation while making Phantom Time, “Family Time.” You can enjoy quality Family time at our Spaghetti Night at Club Hood. We’ll have spaghetti and fettuccine pasta, marinara and Alfredo sauces, meatballs, breadsticks and mixed salad for a Family-value price of $6.95 for adults, $3.95 for children 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger.

Folks, you can’t beat that for a Family night out and I don’t know many spouses who wouldn’t enjoy a nice dinner with no cleanup.

Spaghetti Night begins May 7 and pasta will be served every Thursday. Remember, we are released early on Thursday for Family Time and this is a perfect opportunity for a night out, conveniently located, reasonably priced and appropriate for the entire Family.

Our III Corps and Fort Hood Commander Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, is committed to allowing each of us quality time so we can enrich our Family life. In this Family First Corp, Soldiers are home for dinner each night, free from weekend commitments and released early on Thursday.

My question to you is, “Are you truly taking advantage of the time, and are you enriching your Family?”

Here to Serve!
