The Army Chief of Staff announced new general officer assignments Wednesday that impact two Fort Hood generals.

Brigadier Gen. (Promotable) Joseph P. DiSalvo, the III Corps and Fort Hood deputy commanding general, will become the Chief of Staff for the United States Southern Command in Miami.

Brigadier Gen. James Richardson, the deputy commanding general for support for the 1st Cavalry Division and Combined Joint Task Force-1 in Afghanistan, will assume DiSalvo’s duties as the Deputy Commanding General for III Corps and Fort Hood.

DiSalvo holds degrees from the United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Institute of Technology and the United States Army War College.

Before taking over as the III Corps Deputy Commanding General in April 2011, DiSalvo served as the III Corps Chief of Staff and deployed with the corps to Iraq in 2010-2011.

Richardson holds degrees from the University of South Carolina, the National Defense University, the University of South Carolina at Columbia and the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

He became the 1st Cavalry Division Deputy Commanding General (Support) in July 2010 and is currently deployed to Afghanistan with the division.

The Army Chief of Staff’s announcement did not specify when the generals would move on to their next assignments.
