Spc. Richard Carrillo, 41st Fires Bde., makes it just over eight seconds before being thrown from the mechanical bull at the 2011 Single Soldier Festival. Work hard … play hard … relax hard. The 2012 Single Soldiers’ Festival is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 22 at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. Come enjoy a day devoted primarily to Fort Hood’s single Soldiers. Everyone is invited to attend this celebration. Events include sports competiti- ons, interactive games and free live entertainment by Killeen’s own Down Siid. Freedom Fest 2012 Celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang at this year’s Freedom Fest, featuring headliner Kelly Clarkson. The event kicks off on Sadowski Field at 1 p.m. and includes a 21-gun salute, miniature stock car racing, 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment show, working-dog demos, climbing wall, mechanical bull, H-E-B grocery cart races, concessions, Family activities, arts and crafts vendors and a military salute to the nation. DFMWR Property Auction
Fort Hood’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is holding a property auction starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Registration costs $1 and includes a bidder card and auction listing. Register for the auction Monday through Friday at the Non-Appropriated Fund Property Warehouse, Bldg. 4238 on 79th Street, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
The auction is open to the public and all sales are “as is, where is.” All sales are final.

Paralympics Adaptive Experience
Fort Hood’s Child, Youth and School Age Services is sponsoring an opportunity for children to learn about adaptive sports 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21 at the Abrams Physical Fitness Center.
Besides exposing children to the adversities and athleticism displayed by paralympians, kids will be able to compete against each other is various adaptive sports.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
Club Hood will host the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater “The Murder of Mr. Noah Boddy” at 6 p.m. June 29.
Tickets costs $37 per person and includes the show, dinner and a dessert. Main entrees include London broil and mango chicken.

Enter the 2012 All-Army
Arts and Crafts Contest now through June 30 at Apache Arts and Crafts
Center.
Enter as a novice or accomplished artist in ceramics, drawings, fibers and textiles, glass, metals and
jewelry, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, oil base painting, prints, water base painting and wood working.
The contest is open to active-duty Soldiers, Airmen, Reservists, retirees, National Guard
Soldiers and Families, Gold Star Family members, Department of Defense civilian employees and their Families.

Unit leaders and their spouses fill many roles, such as supporter, adviser, mentor, organizer, communicator and role model. The Military Spouse Emerging Leader Course is designed to equip future or current spouse unit leaders with key information and resources to become a productive, proactive member of a unit team.

CYSS Parent Participation
Parents may earn fee reductions for volunteering a minimum of 10 hours generally in their child’s program, or on behalf of Child, Youth and School Services. Points may be accumulated each month until parents earn 10 points to receive a 10-percent
reduction on one month’s fee for one child.
The goal of the program is to ensure consistency across all CYSS programs by cataloging meaningful participation opportunities, standardizing the point system based on participation, standardizing points required for fee reductions and the process to apply fee reductions to monthly payments.

Common Sense Parenting
All parents are invited to a free parenting class each Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center.
The class is a six-week program, but you may join the program at any point. The class is open to all Soldiers and Family members.

Thursday Music Mix
Check out the Backbone NCO Lounge every Thursday from 3-8 p.m., where a live disc jockey will spin your favorite tunes.
Besides the music mix, the lounge features popcorn and finger foods, a new covered patio and indoor and outdoor televisions.
The Backbone NCO Lounge is open to noncommissioned officers, corporal and above, their guests and the civilian community. The lounge is located inside the Phantom Warrior Center, Bldg. 194. on 37th Street. For more information, call 532-1534.

Paintball Course closure
The Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area Paintball Course is temporarily closed until further notice, because of pending construction.

Outdoor Recreation permits
All patrons engaging in authorized outdoor recreational activities in
Fort Hood training areas must obtain a Fort Hood Permit before patronage.
Authorized outdoor recreational activities include but are not limited to: hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, bird watching, utilizing the designated All-Terrain Vehicle Area and horseback riding.
For a complete list of authorized activities and requirements, contact the Sportsmen’s Center located in Bldg 1937 at Rod & Gun Club Loop off Murphy Road, or call them at 532-4552.
In addition, customers utilizing Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area’s horseback riding and mountain biking are required to check-in at BLORA’s Administrative Office before use. Their telephone number is 287-2523.

Parent Central Services, Bldg. 121, is open the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m.-noon.
