Celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang at this year’s Freedom Fest, featuring headliner Kelly Clarkson. The event kicks off on Sadowski Field at 1 p.m. and includes a 21-gun salute, miniature stock car racing, 1st Cavalry Division Horse Detachment show, working-dog demos, climbing wall, mechanical bull, H-E-B grocery cart races, concessions, Family activities, arts and crafts vendors, and a military salute to the nation. Fireworks will light up the sky at 9:30 p.m. However, there are some items prohibited at the fest. These include: explosive weapons, firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles, glass containers (except baby bottles), pets, alcohol and fireworks. Items permitted to bring into the fest grounds include: strollers, blankets, lawn chairs, small wagons, cameras and video recorder/camcorders. As a security precaution, items such as backpacks and handbags are subject to search. Certified service animals are permitted. All summer long, the Phantom Warrior Lanes at Fort Hood offers a “Summer Special.” Throughout the summer months, every weekday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., the bowling alley offers special discounted rates on open bowling. During the summer, the cost of each game is $1.75 per bowler. The Summer Special at the lanes runs through Aug. 24, and the price does not include shoe rentals and cannot be used with other specials or promotions. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
Club Hood will host the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater “The Murder of Mr. Noah Boddy” at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
Tickets costs $37 per person
and includes the show, dinner and a dessert. Main entrees
include London broil and mango chicken.
The dinner theater is open to everyone 18 years old and up. To make a reservation, call

Freedom Fest visitor access
Fort Hood’s Freedom Fest is Wednesday on Sadowski Parade Field in front of III Corps Headquarters.
Visitors who are non-Department of Defense identification cardholders are highly encouraged to access Fort Hood using off-post shuttle buses located at Ellison and Shoemaker High Schools.
Visitors coming to post with personal vehicles will be required to obtain a temporary pass before accessing Fort Hood. Passes can be obtained at the Fort Hood Visitor’s Center at the Bernie Beck Gate entrance.
DoD ID cardholders are also welcome to use the off-post shuttle buses.

Enter the 2012 All-Army
Arts and Crafts Contest now through Saturday at Apache Arts and Crafts
Center.
Enter as a novice or accomplished artist in ceramics, drawings, fibers and textiles, glass, metals and
jewelry, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, oil base painting, prints, water base painting and wood working.
The contest is open to active-duty Soldiers, Airmen, Reservists, retirees, National Guard
Soldiers and Families, Gold Star Family members, Department of Defense civilian employees and their families.

Emerging Leader Course
Unit leaders and their spouses fill many roles, such as supporter, adviser, mentor, organizer, communicator and role model. The Military Spouse Emerging Leader Course is designed to equip future or current spouse unit leaders with key information and resources to become a productive, proactive member of a unit team.
The next course is set for 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. July 25.

Kindergarten Summer Camp
Fort Hood’s Child, Youth and School Services is hosting a Kindergarten Summer Camp program for children who completed kindergarten during the 2011-12 school year.
The camp offers many activities and field trips. Camp fees are based on a weekly schedule, and parents may choose the activities and events for their children.
Children must be registered with CYSS to participate. The camp runs 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Aug. 24 at the Kouma Child Development Center.

Summer Spectrum Day Camp
School-age care Summer Spectrum Day Camp is open to children in grades 1-5 and offers kids excitement and adventure throughout the summer.
This year’s camp theme is for children to become “Our Super Heroes.” The camp runs through Aug. 24, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

High Adventure Camp
The Comanche Youth Center hosts a Super High Adventure Middle School Camp every weekday throughout the summer from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

Youth may attend as many or as few of the camp days, as desired, as registration for new attendees is open throughout the duration of the camp.The middle school-age camps runs through Aug. 24.

CYSS Parent Participation
Parents may earn fee reductions for volunteering a minimum of 10 hours generally in their child’s program, or on behalf of Child, Youth and School Services. Points may be accumulated each month until parents earn 10 points to receive a 10-percent
reduction on one month’s fee for one child.
The goal of the program is to ensure consistency across all CYSS programs by cataloging meaningful participation opportunities, standardizing the point system based on participation, standardizing points required for fee reductions and the process to apply fee reductions to monthly payments.

Common Sense Parenting
All parents are invited to a free parenting class each Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Oveta Culp Hobby Soldier and Family Readiness Center.

Thursday Music Mix
Check out the Backbone NCO Lounge every Thursday from 3-8 p.m., where a live disc jockey will spin your favorite tunes.
Besides the music mix, the lounge features popcorn and finger foods, a new covered patio, indoor and outdoor televisions.

All patrons engaging in authorized outdoor recreational activities in
