Town Hall: Community encouraged to share ideas, concerns, feedback
August 9, 2012 | Editorial
In January of this year, we conducted our first multimedia town hall meeting here at the Great Place through the use of a televised panel and interactive question and answer forum on Facebook. This first Town Hall was a great success in that we were able to address the concerns and issues of a far wider audience than a traditional town hall meeting.
I am confident this upcoming meeting Tuesday evening will be an even better event, based on some of the lessons we learned in January.
We had a tremendous level of participation from across the installation and community for our first event and I encourage all of you to participate again, so we can hear what is important to you and address not only the issues but also discover ways we can continue to improve our great Army community.
Again, the feedback from our first meeting, as well as the Interactive Customer Evaluation comments we receive throughout the year, are an essential tool to improve Fort Hood’s services and recognize those teams and individuals that are dedicated to providing for our service members and Families.
As I mentioned, the second III Corps and Fort Hood Facebook and TV Town Hall meeting is set for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. The first hour of the town hall will be hosted on Facebook alone at www.facebook.com/forthood. The second and final hour will be televised on KCEN’s MYTX, channel 6.2, and Time Warner Cable channel 132. It will also be broadcast on FortHoodRadio.com. I will be there along with the 1st Cavalry Division commanding general, the Fort Hood deputy garrison commander and the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center commander to hear your thoughts and answer your questions.
It is extremely important for me to hear from you in order to get a better understanding of how our team here is doing. It is also important for all the leaders here at the Great Place to understand the issues and where we could possibly be doing better, which is why I encourage all Soldiers and leaders to participate in this event. Your feedback and recommendations ensure that we know where we are succeeding, as well as where and how we can improve.
The multimedia forum we used in January ensured the largest number of participants and provided digital records of the questions and responses for those that were unable to participate. All in all, I’d say that the multimedia forum is a winning formula, which includes the most people possible at the largest military base in the U.S.
The Fort Hood team strives every day to provide the best services, facilities and care possible to our Soldiers and Army Families. But it’s essential for me and all our leaders to know what issues are out there, so we can all work to continually make our installation and community a better place to work and live.
While budget constraints and personnel draw-down may serve as limiting factors to implementing some of your possible recommendations immediately, I’m certain we will continue to strengthen and improve. Once again, we can only get better if we know what issues are out there, so if you have any issues or questions please tell us. I want to know about it.
I want everyone at the Great Place to understand that the Army standard is my standard. From military discipline and courtesies, to policy and procedures, to treatment and care of our service members and Families–the Fort Hood Soldier is a professional and represents the best uniformed service in the world. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think and answering your questions. Thank you for all your continued support as we continue to grow and make the Great Place greater.
