Tuesday, we hosted our second multimedia town hall meeting utilizing television, telephone and the internet through Facebook. I want to personally thank all of you who participated in this great event. Thanks to you, it was a resounding success. We are still answering all of the comments you left for us on Facebook and want to ensure you get an answer to any question you asked.

Fort Hood is one of the largest military installations in the world by population, but that certainly does not mean that it has to be an impersonal place. In fact, in my 34 years in the Army, I have never been any place where the people work as hard and go out of their way to help others as here at the Great Place. Fort Hood, and our Central Texas community, is a truly special place. That being said, we should always seek ways that we can do better.

The most important things here at the Great Place are Soldiers and their Families. That is why it is important to hear from you. These town hall meetings are a way to ensure that our team of teams gets to hear and understand your issues as well as recommendations to keep Fort Hood as an Armywide leader in taking care of people. It is also a great forum for others in the community to maintain awareness and understand what the command is doing in various areas to improve and support Soldiers and Families.

You all asked some great questions during our town hall. We had a number of questions in regards to our medical care here on Fort Hood, ranging from parking availability at our clinics and medical center to traumatic brain injury evaluation for our Soldiers – all good and valid questions – and I can assure you that Col. Pat Sargent, commander of Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, and his team will continue to assist in answering those questions and do everything possible to provide the very best care at all our medical facilities.

There were also a lot of questions in regards to standards of conduct in the post housing areas and some comments on how we can provide better customer service in some of our offices. We will also address these issues, and I can assure you that we expect all our customer service providers, civilian and military, to be respectful and helpful at all times. We also expect our residents on post to respect their neighbors and be professional in regards to the well-being and maintenance of their communities.

These are just a few of the great comments and questions we received during the town hall, and we will continue to address them all. I would like to reiterate one answer that I provided. August 27, there will be no physical training installation-wide in order to allow all service members to take their children to school and alleviate the traffic at that time.

I can also assure you that although the formal part of the town hall is complete, that does not mean that we will stop addressing or responding to your issues. We will continue to address any issues you have just as we do through our Interactive Customer Evaluation system throughout the year.

I take personal interest in resolving any issues and making the Great Place greater every day. I have also challenged all the leaders in III Corps and Fort Hood to stay engaged and aggressively address and resolve issues at their level. Over the next few months, we will provide updates on actions we are taking on some of the issues you have raised at the town hall.

Once again, I want to credit our public affairs office here on Fort Hood and all the great team members on the installation and in the local community that helped make this multimedia town hall event a success. We will again see where we can improve and make this better for the next town hall, which will be in the January time frame.

The strength of the Great Place is the people who work and live here. Serving all of you is an important part of our mission, and we all take it very seriously. Thanks you again for your comments and participation.
