Next week, I will turn over my duties and responsibilities as the III Corps command sergeant major to Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Schroeder. Command Sgt. Maj. Schroeder is a seasoned noncommissioned officer and a great leader. As is usually the case when the Army selects leaders, he is the right person at the right time for this great corps.

During the course of the last three years, it has been my absolute privilege and honor to serve as the III Corps command sergeant major. During my time here, I’ve had the great fortune to serve with some outstanding officers and noncommissioned officers. While there are many challenges ahead of our Army, I’m convinced that the leaders, Soldiers and Family members here at III Corps and Fort Hood will help to ensure we meet those challenges head on and continue to improve. I want to personally thank both the officer and noncommissioned officer corps for your support during my time here.

The Soldiers, Families and civilian employees living and working here at the Great Place are truly the most dedicated, determined and devoted men and women that I have ever served with. Your passion for taking care of Soldiers and their Families, as well as your commitment to accomplishing the mission, is second to none. My wife, Tonya, and I tip our hats to you for your unyielding support to III Corps and Fort Hood. You are all great Americans.

I am immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished here at III Corps and Fort Hood during the last three years. Thanks to the vision of great commanders, such as Lt. Gen. Don Campbell Jr. and our Garrison Commander, Col.

Matthew Elledge, along with the hard work from everyone up and down the chain of command, I believe this installation is the envy of the Army. Our Soldiers and leaders are well trained and our installation has the resources that Families need and deserve. This formula will ensure Fort Hood will continue to be a place where Soldiers and Families want to come, and where they will want to stay.

Another part of that equation is the incredible Central Texas community. They care so much for our Soldiers and their Families. It is amazing to me the amount of support that we receive from outside the gates of Fort Hood. Not a day goes by without one of the many Central Texas community leaders asking me this question, “What can we do to help the Soldiers and Families of III Corps and Fort Hood?” We are so lucky to have this kind of support.

My wife, Tonya, and I have made so many great friendships during our time here. We have enjoyed being a part of III Corps, Fort Hood and Central Texas. We are blessed to have had the opportunity to serve with all of you and are grateful to you for your support.
